General Information and Registration

Ever wanted to learn more about DAG-Edit? Want new DAG-Edit features and expert ontology building advice? Well, now's your chance! John Richter and the EBI GO group are organising a 3-day DAG-Edit workshop at the Wellcome Trust Genome Campus, Hinxton UK on 10 - 12th December 2003.

  Date: December 10-12, 2003
  Location:The Wellcome Trust Genome Campus in Hinxton, UK
  Time: 9:30 AM - 5 PM; ends approx. noon on Dec. 12
  Registration Fee: TBD
  Registration Deadline: December 3, 2003 (earlier if full)

Please register in advance so that we will know how many will be coming. We will limit the number of participants if necessary.

  Program:

The schedule will be flexible; here's John's provisional outline:

I'm imagining an agenda for the first day that's something like this:

* 9:00 - 10:00 am: The Basics of Ontology Editing - The GO curators walk through the basics of ontology creation, including a discussion of the most common day-to-day tasks, how to solve common ontology modeling problems, and share some not-so-well-known tips.

* 10:00 - 10:30 am: What's new in DAG-Edit 1.4x, and what it's good for.

* 10:30 - whenever: What do you hate about DAG-Edit? People can share the problems they have using DAG-Edit, like hard-to-use features or bugs.

* work: People then just go about their daily ontology development tasks. They can call anyone over to help them or talk to them. I expect that I'll get lots of bug reports over the course of the day, so I can spend my downtime putting together bug fixes.

On subsequent mornings, we can use the 9 - 10 time slot for Q & A time, and then just work the rest of the day. If someone asks an illuminating or important question, we can get everyone's attention and work through it on the big screen.

We welcome further suggestions, so if there is a topic you would like to see covered, please send ideas to go@geneontology.org.
