Sample Introduction
Saccharomyces cerevisiae literature curation and genome annotation at SGD.
Saccharomyces cerevisiae, commonly known as baker's or budding yeast, possesses the most completely sequenced and annotated eukaryotic genome. As one of several scientific curators at SGD, part of my job includes ongoing refinement of the genome annotation as a whole using the Gene Ontology. I am one of several curators who specialize in GO and am experienced with ontology development and in using GO to annotate yeast genes. Other GO responsibilities include keeping up with developments in the GO Consortium, for example addition of a new column to the gene_association file format, to make sure that SGD keeps up with these changes. My areas of interest include transcription, RNA splicing, and non-coding RNA genes. I look forward to the annotation camp to work with other scientific curators and participate in discussions regarding GO annotation philosophy, application, and consistency.
