This README file provides information for anyone who is working with the 
structure of the web site.

The Web site document root is go/www/ not go/. To get the file go/www/index.shtml
 the URL is:  http://www.geneontology.org/

To get go/www/GO.format.html the URL is:  http://www.geneontology.org/GO.format.html

If you look at the directory via FTP you'll see that their are soft links
present.  This allows old URLs like http://www.geneontology.org/doc/ to work. 
(The web site used to be in the doc directory) The location of the index.shtml
files defines the document root.  We are providing these files via three
different servers:  HTTP, FTP and CVS. You cannot manipulate the soft links via
CVS, so that is one thing you'll need to ask someone at SGD to do.  Otherwise
you can make all the changes you like to the files in CVS.
